Interview with Boris, Mulondon's "father"

Hello:

Today i'm very happy because this is my first english interview and because we are going to know more things about a very interesting person: Boris, the man who created Mulondon brand. But he is here because he is a blogger and many other things too. Let´s meet Boris.

And this is misterious Boris' face. I thought he should be older...

* Hi, Boris. As my first English-speaking guest, please answer the following question: "Why inspired you to create your blog at http://www.MuLondon.com/blog ?"

As you know, I make 100% organic and natural skincare product. That is a lifestyle that I have chosen, as it makes me feel good; it's much more than just a business to me. I wanted to be able to share my thoughts and feelings on the issues I'm passionate about with my website visitors and customers, and that's how the blog came about.

These logos make me feel safe and i read "quality"

In my blog I write about different topics - exciting vegan foods and ingredients that I have discovered, like yuzu(a Japanese citrus fruit), Matamis na Bao (a yummy coconut milk spread from The Philippines) or aluminium-free bicarbonate of soda(amazing for upset stomachs!).

I am political at times, and have covered the mining of metals in Congo, which helps fund the arms trade. These metals are used in all mobile phones, and it's what makes them vibrate. I started a petition on Change.org to ask all large mobile phone manufacturers to stop sourcing their supplies from areas where they could be supporting the arms trade. I have written for Blog Action Day, covering the use of DDT, which was once a norm, but is now recognised as poison.

When I discovered the WWF and Oxfam's involvement with Monsanto, I was shocked - so that was a theme of one of my blog posts.

I have also written about the difference between the terms "natural" and "organic" - something that a lot of people have a hard time understanding; and about the dangers of GM foods.

And - of course - I write about skincare. I do not use any preservatives or man-made chemicals when I make MuLondon products. I do not think that we need preservatives in everything, and I have blogged about chemicals in skincare products. The healing power of Shea butter, which is the base for all my moisturisers, has been scientifically proven and that was the theme for another blog post.

I also experiment a lot with different ingredients and formulas, and I try everything on myself. So when it was time for my holiday to Spain and I needed a sunscreen, I decided to make my own, with 100% natural ingredients and see how that would work. * I know you like Spain. What do you enjoy doing when you spend your holidays here?

I usually go to the Canaries. You know you're going to get fantastic weather whenever you go. I love to sunbathe, swim and play in the sand. Shopping is good, too, but there are no pure vegetarian restaurants, and choices for vegans are very limited there. Fortunately, you have lots of nice, fresh veggies, delicious olive oil and chickpeas (garbanzos). It's amazing what you can cook up with just a couple of ingredients! I also love, love, love Almendrina. It's a fantastic, yummy sweet and smooth almond paste from Spain that everybody should try. I'm so happy that there's now an organic version, too! I have written about Almedrina on my blog.

I love the nature and the architecture, and I love to take photos of the buildings, the plants and the animals on the island.

I love Almendrina too. Here in Spain we can buy it at Mercadona, Hipercor and at some natural food shops.

* Do you live with pets?

I have a cat who is very cute and really, really naughty. She's a scratchy little predator. Legs beware! I love animals and so my cat is fed a cruelty-free diet. Lucky for us in the UK, there's a British company called Benevo that makes a complete, cruelty-free cat and dog food (http://www.benevo.com/benevo-cat/benevo-cat-2/). I've heard arguments that it's not "natural", but how natural is it for a cat to eat beef, pork or even fish? Cats do not hunt fish or large mammals in the wild; they feed on insects, small birds and vermin. I've never seen cat food based on these things. The most important things is that she loves her food, and that it contains everything she needs; without artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

* I always try to explain to people that they can get healthy skin and colourful make-up without causing pain to animals. PETA likes your creams and you carry their logo, you must be proud of that. Could you please explain to our readers why it's healthy using natural and eco-friendly cosmetics?

I am extremely proud to be registered by both PETA and The Vegan Society. I have always believed that you can care for you skin much better with natural, safe and mild ingredients. It's better for the body and for the environment. There really is no need to test anything on animals. It's pointless as we really do not need thousands of new ingredients that even though that may test as safe on animals, can still be toxic to humans.

Using all-natural ingredients is so much better long-term. To me, the health and moral implications of using organic, natural and cruelty-free products are a given. It just makes sense!

Entrevista a Ana

Hoy debo agradecer especialmente el haber sacado un pedacito de su tiempo a Ana, una de las voluntarias de la Protectora Amigos de los Perros, de Carballo ( Galicia ). Además Ana es una de las bloggers del blog paralelo a la página web de la protectora, http://asociacionamigosdelosperros.blogspot.com/. Sin más preámbulos, veamos qué nos cuenta Ana.

* Hola Ana. En esta ocasión la pregunta invariante va a ser modificada: ¿ cómo te animaste a crear tu propio blog, y evidentemente antes de eso, cómo surgió la idea de crear la protectora ?

Hola Inma, verás, la idea del blog se nos ocurrió a algunas voluntarias de la Protectora Amigos de los Perros de Carballo, para intentar difundir más casos de maltrato, de perros desaparecidos, etc. La protectora contaba y cuenta con uan web, pero al no ser modificable a nuestro gusto y ver cómo Blogger es gratuito y llega a tanta gente, se nos ocurrió que podríamos hacer un blog para manejar nosotras mismas, las voluntarias de la protectora.










* Mucha gente piensa que eso de las ONGs y el voluntariado es para personas con mucho tiempo libre, que si el trabajo, los niños, las tareas de la casa. ¿ Qué le dirías a la gente ?, ¿ cuánto tiempo te lleva´?, ¿ se puede compaginar todo ?

Verás, la mayoria de las voluntarias tienen su trabajo y su vida, pero es cierto que cuando tienes hijos como el caso de alguna no te queda tiempo. Sobre todo si como es el caso de alguna , se pasa 11 horas fuera de casa, con la niña en la guarderia casi otras 11 horas. Así que una vez que llegas a casa en lo unico que puedes pensar es en dedicar el poco tiempo que tienes a los hijos.

Las demas, que no tenemos hijos, tambien tenemos poco tiempo pero aún así intentamos echar una mano en la Protectora, que como muchos no sabrán no son asociaciones financiadas por el estado, ni por organismos oficiales, sino que son totalmente privadas y financiadas por cuotas de socios y por ayudas materiales de voluntarios como yo.



* Vamos, que eres una persona normal como cualquier otra, con ganas de colaborar. Y cuéntanos algo sobre tus otras aficiones o inquietudes.

¿ Aficiones e inquietudes ? me queda poco tiempo para tener aficiones o inquietudes que no sean temas relacionados con los animales abandonados y en peligro de estarlo. Estoy muy sensibilizada con el tema del maltrato a todos los niveles, humano, animal, toda clase de maltrato merece ser denunciado , y merece que todos pongamos un granito de arena para repudiar a estas personas que lo practican.

No puedo más que unirme a tu denuncia y aclarar que muchos defensores de animales condenamos activamente el abuso en general, también sobre humanos o sobre el medio ambiente. No sé si a tí te ha pasado, Ana, pero yo me encuentro con gente que piensa que son temas excluyentes...




* Tengo una duda...¿ recibís sólo ayudas de particulares o colabora con vosotros alguna clínica o algún supermercad ? Porque, para quien no lo sepa, las protectoras reciben de buen grado pienso que haya caducado hace poco, mantas viejas, antisépticos...¿ me dejo algo ?

Verás, de cuando en vez y muy de cuando en vez, podemos recibir fondos y escasos de algún organismo oficial, de algún ayuntamiento (porque también les recogemos los perros ), pero el mayor montante de ayudas las recibimos de socios y de aportaciones de personas anónimas que se han sensibilizado por la causa. El pienso lo pagamos, nadie nos regala nada, a no ser que alguna persona particular como acto cariño hacia los animales que alli tenemos, nos traiga, pienso, mantas, articulos de limpieza... Hace poco un particular nos trajo muchisimas mantas y le estamos muy agradecidas, pero ¿ pienso caducado, restos de comida? no, no conseguimos que ningún supermercado o cadenas de alimentacion nos dé nada, y no es porque no lo hayamos pedido, no...

Nos echa una mano algún veterinario, eso es cierto, porque tenemos que vacunar animales, medicarlos, etc, y eso cuesta dinero. Pero necesitariamos mucha mas ayuda. Mucha gente piensa incluso que ganamos dinero con la Protectora, y nos vienen a allí con perros, amenazando que si no los recogemos los matan y cosas así, como si nosotros estuviermos obligados a recogerlos.

Mucha gente piensa que las protectoras están financiadas, pero te aseguro que la nuestra está financiada en su mayoria por particulares. El terreno en el que está situadas las instalaciones son de propiedad privada, la luz, el agua, y muchísimas mas cosas las paga la persona que fundó la protectora, y aunque cueste creerlo nadie es millonario ni le sobra el dinero, simplemente hay gente que tienen un corazón que no le cabe en el pecho.


* Para finalizar, ya ha pasado la Navidad y me imagino que estaréis temblando pensando en la que se os avecina a partir de mayo o junio. ¿ Deseas explicar algo respecto a este problemón ?

Explicar... ¿ qué podría explicar que no se sepa? Empezarán a llegar animales de caza abandonados al finalizar la caza, a mediados del verano tambiÉn cuando la gente quiera ir de vacaciones y el can estorbe, estamos continuamentente recibiendo animales, algunos incluso torturados de manera cruel.

¿ Qué tendría que suceder para que esto dejara de ocurrir? pues que cambiara la ley, que prohibieran las tiendas de animales, y el comercio con animales. Que como en muchos paises más desarrollados en este tema, todo aquel que quiera un animal tuviera que pasar un examen, y que sólo pudiera acceder a un perro , o a cualquier animal mediante adopciones. Y que la gente se concienciase de que el maltrato hacia un animal es una lacra, todo aquel que maltrate a un animal y disfrute con ello, puede ser un sociópata en potencia. Hoy es un perro despellejado o torturado hasta morir, mañana cuando le aburran los perros... ¿ qué pasará? ¿ Qué pasa por las mentes de estas personas?

Hay muchas cosas de las que quisiera hablar, seria muy larga la entrevista. Sólo una última cosa: antes de comprar un perro, un gato, un loro, por favor, pensad en los animales que están en las Protectoras buscando un hogar, y pensad en la gente que día tras día lucha por que sobrevivan. Y si puedo hacer una petición, me gustaria que visitarais nuestra web, y si lo veis posible y os apetece, os hagáis socios para ayudarnos... simplemente con una cuota mensual de 6 euros podríais hacer mucho.
